"He's leaving home," sniffs Dan. "And, god, I'm so emotional I should be in an apron chasing after him with a tray of snickerdoodles or something. It's not like he's even mine."

Casey frowns.

"He is. He knows he is. Even Lisa knows it."

Dan manages a watery smile.

"Why won't he let us drive him?"

"Because we raised him to be confident and independent. Won't make that mistake again."

"And you gave him the Bug convertible for his birthday."

"That too."

"Okay, let's do this." Dan grabs Casey's hand. "Hey, Charlie! What are your thoughts on in-car baked goods?"
